Is Starting a Business at 50+ Worth It?
ONE HUNDRED TIMES YES, but not for the reasons you may be thinking.
I can only speak for myself, but when I hit 50, something in me shifted…
- I was more comfortable in my own skin.
- I stopped caring about the perceptions others have (which I had no way of controlling).
- For that matter, I stopped trying to control anything I couldn’t control…which is EVERYTHING
- I began slowing my roll so I could enjoy the people and things I cared for the most.
- I did a TON of self-awareness work – mainly focusing on how Jesus sees me.
Because of these shifts, I began to look at other women my age through the eyes of Jesus, and He helped me see that 50 is the beginning.
He gave my heart this inkling of how we all feel, which is that if we don’t do “it” now, it’s not going to happen for us. We are very aware that we’re in the third 1/3rd or fourth 1/4th of our lives, and the clock is ticking on us accomplishing what God placed us here to do (outside of our families).
At this season in life, we have half a century of knowledge, experience, love, pain, comfort, grief, and compassion we’ve journeyed through. With that comes a woman like you who is poised to take on so many important ventures with grace, love, and a level of calm not found in most younger women. These virtues are honed with time and experience. They cannot be learned.
By this time in life, we are past all the striving.
We are in search of a sacred, unhurried, and intentional space for ourselves.
- We are wise, faith-rooted, seasoned leaders who walk with Christ, who shapes how we lead.
- We are not in the grind of building; we are in the grace of refining.
- We’ve moved beyond the climb, trading pressure for peace and ambition for alignment.
- And here is where we chase a deeper spiritual formation, and for us… It holds equal weight with business strategy because real leadership begins within, and we know it.
You’re reading this blog because you’re trying to figure out if starting over at 50+ is worth it, and I can relate.
- In some ways, we’re simply tired. However… when we’re called by God, obedience has its rewards.
- He will help you find the rhythm needed to fulfill the plan and purpose He has for you.
- Our impact on others matters. As we age as disciples of Jesus, the only urgency we find ourselves tending is that which relates to those we love and their relationship with Jesus. We have the luxury of understanding how short life can be.
- At our age, we are defining for ourselves priorities which include calling and stewardship.
- We can see that entrepreneurship can be a part of the purpose God has for our lives.
If you’re sensing a shift, a nudge, or a holy curiosity about what’s possible at this age, pay attention to it. God doesn’t waste seasons, (stop…re-read that last sentence)… and He doesn’t start something in us without purpose. You’re not late. You’re right on time for what He’s been preparing you to do. It is a prepared moment. Quiet. Intentional. Faith-rooted. And full of fruit yet to come.
